Glidden City Council Adding Additional $20,000 To Sidewalk Cost Share Program

The Glidden City Council has approved adding another $20,000 to the sidewalk cost-share program after seeing the success in the first round of funding. In July of this year, the council approved $30,000 in Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) funding to reimburse residents throughout Glidden looking to replace their damaged sidewalks or to add a new sidewalk to create more safe walking spaces and get sidewalks up to code. City Administrator Brooke Peterson says, “The first $30,000 was earmarked fairly quickly, so the council decided at the last meeting to allocate another $20,000 of LOST to the fund.” The program has approved 15 projects up to date, with at least two more being added to the agenda for the next city council meeting. Of the 15 approved, six have been completed and reimbursed. Peterson adds, “With the 15 approved so far, 2,022 feet of sidewalk will be replaced throughout Glidden, with an additional 269 feet added if the next two are approved. Of the $50,000 secured to the fund, approximately $2,620 is left.” That funding will cover reimbursements for approximately 524 feet for a four-foot-wide sidewalk and around 374 feet for a five-foot-wide sidewalk.  Those with additional questions or wish to partake in Glidden’s Sidewalk Cost Share Program can contact City Hall at 712-659-3010.
