The Denison Police Department is the 2024 recipient of the KELTEK K9 Unit grant to purchase equipment for the department to bring back a k9 program. Being only the second-ever grant winner, the Denison Police Department will utilize the $10,500 to create a custom uplift for the 2023 Ford F-150 that will transport and house the soon-to-be-added K9 officer. Tony Trejo, chief of police, is proud to be able to bring this program back to the agency, as it has been over six years since the last working K9 officer. He says, “Our officers know the value in adding this specialty to our department, showing that we are looking to be proactive in the world of law enforcement, and knowing that our community wants to invest in our officers and our agency shows that our city truly cares.” The department has been working on a fundraising effort to purchase a K9 and is much closer to its goal thanks to the KELTEK grant. Larry Kolontar, President of KELTEK, Inc., says the company has been supplying law enforcement with vehicle upfits, cameras, computers, and more for over 25 years and is thrilled to award this grant to the Denison Police Department. He says, “We are proud to be a small part of helping them bring a K9 program back to the community, which will allow them to only better serve the great citizens of Denison.”
