The Carroll County Board of Supervisors approved plans for two bridge replacement projects at this morning’s (Monday) meeting, totaling nearly $400,000. The bridges to be replaced include 320th Street between Sycamore and Timber Avenues, northwest of Coon Rapids, and 300th Street east of Walnut Avenue to the northeast of Coon Rapids. County Engineer Zac Andersen says that crews will replace aging bridges with box culverts in both cases.
The 320th Street project is estimated at approximately $145,000, while the 300th Street project will be around $235,000. Bid letting, which will be overseen by the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT), is slated for March 2025, and Andersen says they will try to keep the projects connected.
Andersen adds construction could begin as soon as April 2025 or as late as August 2025, and that will largely be up to the selected contractor. Andersen says the best part about these projects is that they do not involve any local dollars.
The supervisors voted unanimously on Monday to move forward with both projects and to accept the federal aid agreement as required by the DOT. Once the chosen contractor places it on their schedule, construction is expected to last between five and 15 working days.
