New Opportunities is seeking the public’s help in creating a merry Christmas for hundreds of kids in Carroll County this holiday season. The Toys for Tots and Giving Tree programs assist families that participate in services offered by New Opportunities, such as heating and food assistance or Head Start. Carroll Outreach Coordinator Val Holdsworth says they have tags available at various sites for people to pick up as soon as possible.
Each tag has a child’s age, gender, interests, and clothing size on the back to help participants select appropriate gifts. Holdsworth says the deadline to return the wish tags is Wednesday, Dec. 4, and those can be turned in at one of several drop-off sites.
Sourcing the gifts is only half of the process. Holdsworth says New Opportunities needs help sorting and distributing the packages to the hundreds of kids registered for the program.
Holdsworth adds that they have another opportunity to help families in need this holiday season: the Jingle Bell Fun Run on Saturday, Dec. 7.
The event begins at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Carroll Rec Center. The entry fee is one new, unwrapped toy, and participants can register using the link included with this story on our website. Holdsworth says Carroll County has been overwhelmingly supportive of New Opportunities’ Christmastime initiatives.
