CCSD Board Of Education Approves New Student Conduct Policy On Busses And More During Monday Night’s Meeting

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education had a closed session, heard from Adams’s Elementary staff regarding the science curriculum and more during Monday night’s meeting. The meeting began with a closed session per Iowa code 21.5(1)c to discuss strategy in matters that are presently in litigation, where disclosure would likely prejudice or disadvantage the position of the government body in that litigation. Following the closed session, the board members reviewed a presentation with Adams’s Elementary staff who teach the OpenSciEd curriculum, and how it differs from the previous curriculum, as it is more student-led discussions than teacher lectures. Administrative reports were viewed and discussed, followed by a review of board policies. Board members approved money, non-perishable food items, a used chest freezer, and more in donations from multiple individuals and businesses for the Tiger Cupboard. They wish to thank the CCSD community for stepping up when they are in need. The Breda American Legion also donated copies of America’s White Table by Margot Raven to the fourth-grade classrooms and $100 in recognition of National Education Week. Action items included approval of early graduates, a Memorandum of understanding with Carroll County for emergency shelter or transport, revisions to student conduct policy on school transportation, and a $16,250 quote from Confidence Consulting Group (CCG) out of Des Moines to design, service and manage the last three sections of the high school roof needing to be replaced, which is expected to cost the district approximately $175,000. The last item on the agenda was to approve the substitute rate for the food service kitchen manager and bus drivers, a request in modified supplemental amount (MSA) total of $541,874 for the district’s at-risk/dropout prevention program. Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more on these topics in upcoming newscasts.
