The Glidden City Council has decided to table a solo bid on renovations to the enclosed shelter house at the city park to explore further options for expanding the building’s usage. Before budget season in 2024, City Administrator Brooke Peterson brought the idea to council members of updating the current enclosed shelter to add heating and air conditioning and more to allow for year-round use of individuals wishing to rent the building. Peterson says the council is not entirely against Badding Construction’s bid; they want to gather more information before approving a final decision.
Peterson says many Glidden residents want to see buildings similar to the Kruger Shelter in town.
Currently, the Kruger Shelter is rented approximately 230 times a year, while the enclosed shelter at the City Park is rented around ten times during the warmer months. The City Council has until March 9 to either accept or reject Badding Construction’s bid, so Peterson says the enclosed shelter project will be a topic of discussion at future city council meetings until a final decision is made.
