The Audubon County Courthouse Is Slowly Opening Back Up After Almost A Year Of Renovation Work

After nearly nine months, the Audubon County Courthouse is slowly opening back up after the competition of the HVAC project. Offices in the courthouse moved to temporary locations back in April of 2024, while Graphite Construction completed the renovations of replacing the original piping system in the building and the hot water boiler. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the original expected completion date of October was pushed back because of needing to replace the roof to accommodate the eight new HVAC units. Starting on Jan. 9, the Audubon County Assessor’s Office started the transition back into the courthouse, followed by the county recorder and treasurer’s office. Clerk of Courts and county attorney’s office is looking to move back towards the end of the January, with the courthouse fully operational by the end of the month. The total cost of the project is around $2.88 million, that is paid for with a combination of a loan agreement and funding from the American Plan Rescue Act (APRA) that will be paid back in ten years.
