A Carroll man was taken into custody yesterday (Monday) on multiple charges after allegedly starting a brush pile on fire. According to the Carroll Police Department, officers and firefighters were dispatched at approximately 2:47 p.m. to the 900 block of U.S. Highway 30 in response to the report. Witnesses also reported a man, identified as 44-year-old Joshua Merle Stout, standing near the fire. Authorities arrested Stout later in the afternoon after he was found with a lighter in his possession. Stout resisted arrest and threatened to strike officers with a hand-sized metal tractor. He was booked into the Carroll County jail on charges of reckless use of fire and assault on persons in certain occupations, serious misdemeanors, and public intoxication and interference with official acts, simple misdemeanors. As of this (Tuesday) morning, Stout remained in custody at the Carroll County jail.
