Glidden City Council To Hold Two Public Hearings On March 27

The City of Glidden has scheduled two public hearings towards the end of March, discussing the proposed property tax levy rate for fiscal year (FY) 2026 and the amendment for the New Cooperative/Downtown Urban Renewal Area Plan. The first public hearing will be held before the city council meeting on March 24, at 5:15 p.m, discussing the proposed tax levy rate. City Administrator Brooke Peterson says residents will be seeing a slight increase to their overall property tax rate from the city.

According to Zillow, the average value of a house in Glidden is roughly $156,000. With the $13.43 per $1,000 taxable valuation, the average household can expect to pay $2,095 per year in property taxes. The second public hearing will be held during the regular city council meeting scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on the same night. Peterson says the city council has approved to invest $200,000 from a certificate of deposit (CD) to revitalize run-down buildings in the downtown district to welcome new businesses to the area, which will be collected back in the form of tax increment financing (TIF).

Peterson says a public hearing will need to be held every time a new project is wanting to be completed through the Downtown Urban Renewal Area Plan. She says it is a way to bring transparency to community members and following procedure to be able to collect the debt back through TIF.

Again, the two public hearings will be scheduled on March 24, starting at 5:15 p.m.
