No injuries and only minor damage have been reported after an exhaust fire occurred at the Family Table Restaurant Tuesday evening. The Carroll Fire Department was called out at approximately 5:34 p.m., arriving on the scene to see smoke and flames coming out of the roof of the building. All customers and staff were able to exit the building safely. One of the staff members reported he heard a loud noise and then saw the entire kitchen engulfed in smoke. Fire Chief Dan Hannasch says that after the blaze had diminished, crews went to the roof to ensure the fire was out.
Hannasch reports that the fire originated in the exhaust and not on the grill, as previously believed. He says the exhaust and a small portion of the roof took most of the damage from the flames while the rest of the restaurant remained untouched.
In a post to social media, the restaurant will remain closed until further notice while repairs to the roof and exhaust system are replaced. Hannasch says the exhaust system will need to be built to Iowa Code safety standards.
Pictures from the fire are included below. Management at the Family Table Restaurant wishes to thank everyone who assisted in putting out the fire and ensuring everyone’s safety, including the Carroll Fire Department, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Carroll Police Department and Carroll County EMS. They encourage individuals to follow them on social media for a reopening date after the repairs are completed.
