Local Residents Organize Protest Saturday In Carroll

A non-partisan group of Iowans plan to gather this weekend in downtown Carroll to voice their concerns over issues they say will have significant and widespread impact on Iowa. Russ Steinkamp, one of the 15 or so people putting the “Concerned Iowans” protest together this weekend, says Saturday’s event isn’t affiliated with any particular political party or organization.

Participants will gather at the Carroll Public Library at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, where they will make posters for the 12 p.m. walk along U.S. Highway 30 to the parking lots west of the Westgate Mall. Steinkamp says anybody who has complaints or worries about really anything is welcome to join. However, their focus is really on four main topics, starting with Social Security.

Steinkamp says they are also worried about veterans’ benefits.

He adds the assembly will also focus on challenges facing the state’s agricultural sector and perceived cuts to Medicaid and Medicare. Steinkamp adds they’ll be hosting a sign-making party the day before, on Friday, at the Carroll Public Library from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
