Despite the blizzard that blanketed west central Iowa last weekend, the Carroll Chamber of Commerce had a record 89 teams that participated in the 11th annual Hoop It Up youth basketball tournament. Teams and spectators from as far away as Clarinda and Algona made the trip to Carroll for what organizers are saying is becoming one of the most notable and prestigious youth basketball tournaments in the region. Tournament scheduler, Scott Tigges said, “Volunteers, certified officials and tournament organization make this a basketball tournament destination for an incredible value to all participating teams.” Every gymnasium in Carroll was packed for the 170 plus games that were played on Saturday and Sunday, as were local restaurants, hotels and local businesses who benefited from the influx of people Hoop It Up brought into the community.
