The City of Glidden has been awarded a $2,000 Power of Trees grant by two concerned parties to assist the city with maintaining the threatened Ash population in the town. With Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) confirmed in Greene County to the east, the city plans to remove and replace Ash trees in the parks and right-of-ways too large to be effectively protected from the pest. Glidden was only one of 26 locations selected in the most recent round of funding from a non-profit organization based in Marion, Trees Forever, and Black Hills Energy, of Rapid City, S.D. The two organizations are partnering together to award $71,000 in grants this year. Additional information on the Power of Trees program and how to apply can be found by following the links included below this story.
