Two Teenagers Escape Injury In Accident Near Carroll High School Wednesday

Two teenagers were uninjured, but visibly shaken after a car accident at approximately 3:14 p.m. Wednesday on Grant Road. The Carroll Police Department responded to the scene just south of the Carroll High School to find that a 2007 Kia Spectra, driven by 16-year-old Devin Frederick Baack of Carroll, was southbound on Grant Road when two other vehicles in front of him stopped suddenly. Baack says he swerved to the west to avoid colliding with the vehicle in front of him, but he was struck from behind by a 2003 Ford Focus, driven by 16-year-old Ashley Lynette Fennell of Carroll. Fennell told officers she believed she was travelling the speed limit, but may have been too close to the Baack vehicle to be able to stop in time to avoid the collision. The Focus hit the rear of the Spectra, pushing it into the ditch. The impact caused the Focus’ airbags to deploy. There was an estimated $4,000 in damage to the Baack vehicle and $8,000 to the Fennell car, and Fennell was cited for failure to maintain control.
