It has only been a little over one month since four Carroll High School sophomores announced their plans to solicit donations for the Carroll Police Department’s K-9 unit. In early April, Kayde Nissen, Merkl Kauch, Tyler Tuning and Tyler Comstock expanded on a class project that only called for them to come up with a fundraising idea. They put that plan into action, and though the Carroll Police Department has not had a K-9 in service since 2007, Chief, Brad Burke, reports they are getting much closer. As of Tuesday, the K-9 fund has raised $6,375. The fundraising efforts continue as the cost of acquiring and training a new K-9 officer can be up to or more than $20,000. For those interested in donating, an account has been established at Commercial Savings Bank in Carroll and contributions can also be left at the Carroll Police Department. Those wishing more information can contact Burke at 792-3536.
