A Carroll Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) student has recorded the highest score ever given for business simulation in the United States and several other countries. Austin Gehling earned the score while taking an Introduction to Business class, taught by Professor Russell Holmes. One of the class requirements was completion of a simulation created by Smartsims.com of Auckland, New Zealand called “MikesBikes.” More than 8,000 students at 100 or so colleges and universities around the world use Smartsims.com to compete by maximizing shareholder value (SHV) for their firm. While a value of $100 is considered good, Gehling’s came in at $413.86. Former DMACC student, Mason Ohnemus of Milo, had the second-best score in the nation, but has now fallen to third place, while another DMACC student, Luke Stillwell of Ankeny, has the fifth highest score ever recorded in the world.
