Carroll County’s Internet Technology (IT) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Director, Carl Wilburn, presented a quarterly report to the Board of Supervisors on Monday morning and introduced a request that originated with the courts.
As of July 1, there is only one Magistrate on the docket to cover the Carroll County caseload. Currently, the county is using Facetime on a couple of iPads, but they would like to look at something more permanent and less accessible by the prisoners that utilizes Go To Meeting.
Wilburn says they are getting information from other court circuits that are ahead of the curve on this to determine what works and what does not in this situation.
Wilburn says that this request could be a safety measure, but will definitely help streamline some of the court’s processes. The question of whether or not this will be an expense for the state or for the county is as of yet unanswered. More information will be brought forward as they continue to research a method that would work best for now and still be portable and functional with any future changes to the jail.
