A Carroll man has died from injuries sustained in a cement truck accident on Monday in Guthrie County. At approximately 1:23 p.m., the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, about seven miles south of Coon Rapids on Chestnut Road, just north of 165th Street. The investigation revealed 56-year-old Randy Dean Barker was driving the 2016 Mack cement truck southbound on Chestnut when he came upon a vehicle that was broken down on the southbound shoulder of the road. After applying the brakes, Barker turned to the left, but entered the shoulder/ditch area. As he corrected to come back onto the roadway, the truck, which was full of cement, overturned onto the driver’s side and slid down the roadway before coming to a stop. Barker was airlifted to Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, but died at the hospital. There was an estimated $160,000 in damages to the cement truck, owned by Moorhouse Ready Mix of Breda. Funeral services for Randy Barker will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll.
