Suspect Injured When High-Speed Chase Ends In Crash Near Woodbine

A high-speed chase last Thursday that started near Avoca ended when the suspect crashed the vehicle into a cornfield near Woodbine. The Iowa State Patrol reports the pursuit of a black Dodge Durango began on Interstate 80 mid-morning, but the trooper lost sight of the vehicle. It was later seen traveling through Harlan, and when he was spotted, the driver sped off towards Denison on Highway 59. Once he reached the intersection with Highway 30, he turned west, and several attempts by the Iowa State Patrol to end the pursuit with stop sticks along this route were unsuccessful. The male suspect was eventually apprehended after leaving the roadway about one mile to the east of Woodbine. The driver’s name has not yet been released, but he was transported to CHI Health in Missouri Valley by Woodbine Fire and Rescue and then later transported to Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Neb. The Iowa State Patrol did search the area of the crash for a second suspect, but none was located. The incident remains under investigation. The Harlan, Denison and Woodbine Police Departments, Shelby and Crawford County Sheriff’s Offices, Transportation Enforcement Division of the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT), Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), Iowa State Patrol Air Wing and Harrison County Conservation assisted during the pursuit and at the scene of the accident.
