Kuemper Catholic High School students and staff celebrated their first place finish in the 2017 Traveling Challenge Cup Monday morning. Officials from the award’s sponsor, Bank Iowa, were in attendance to present the award before a packed gym in the high school gymnasium. This is the sixth time in the last eight years Kuemper has been selected as the 2A winner. Activities Director, Ryan Isgrig, says their continued recognition for the award comes from hard work on all fronts.
Points are earned through success in boys’ and girls’ athletics, speech, music and academics. Kuemper consistently finishes near the top every year in the competition. Isgrig says the students should be proud of the accomplishment.
Kuemper received the 2017 Traveling Cup trophy and a $2,000 stipend from Bank Iowa during the ceremony. Isgrig says where that money goes is not up to school officials, but rather the people who earned the award.
In class 4A, Waukee High school was the top finisher. The Class 3A winner was Decorah High School and another local school, Audubon High, placed first in the 1A category.
