The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Directors has approved a purchase order to add two new buses to the district’s fleet. The board received bids from two companies, both for the delivery of two 65-passenger buses. Thomas Built Buses submitted a bid of just under $163,000, and International Buses’ bid came in at $159,000. Jon Sampson, board member and part of the transportation committee, says many of the buses currently in use are beginning to reach very high mileage.
Sampson adds the pricing for these vehicles is the best they have seen for quite some time. The purchase will be funded through the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) silo, and the board anticipates buying additional buses going into next year. Several board members asked the superintendent, Rob Cordes, why they should not just make the full purchase now if the price is right.
The International bid was unanimously approved with delivery expected in two to three weeks. They will look towards making another purchase in March of 2018 for delivery before the start of the 2018-19 school year.
