The Lake View City Council heard funding requests from five different organizations for Fiscal Year 2019 at their regular meeting earlier this week. The Lake View Library Board of Trustees were the first group to approach the council, seeking an increase of $1,715, or 2.6 percent, to their budget. According to City Administrator, Scott Peterson, the library would use that money to increase their selection.
Library staff are currently working with a space needs consultant. Based on the results from that study, a library expansion could be in the works for Lake View. Region XII Council of Governments attended the meeting to make a request of $1,000 for their Housing Trust Fund. Peterson says Lake View residents have seen benefits from the city’s participation.
Black Hawk Lake brings many visitors to Lake View throughout the year, thanks in part to the Lake View Community Club. This group is responsible for organizing the Stone Pier Concert Series and requested $9,000 to continue to advertise what the community has to offer.
The final major request made to the city came from the Lake View Park Board. They are seeking $10,000, the same as Fiscal Year 2018, to continue to slow the spread of Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) into the community. Peterson says past efforts have proven successful so far.
EAB has been confirmed in more than half of Iowa’s 99 counties, including nearby Greene, Buena Vista and Harrison Counties. The council took no action on any of these requests at the meeting. The final decision on funding will be made when the city publishes its annual budget later this year.
