An 11-year-old male from Newell had to be restrained after physically threatening school staff and police. At approximately 11:07 a.m. on Tuesday, Storm Lake Police were called to the middle school on a report of the out-of-control student. Upon arrival and during their attempts to calm him, he allegedly repeatedly spit on a police officer. The juvenile was transported to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center for an evaluation and has been charged with assault on a peace officer, a serious misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct, a simple misdemeanor. He was cited and released to a parent pending a court date. The case has been forwarded to the juvenile courts.
