Everybody is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, and the Manning Germans are no exception as the first annual St. Patrick’s Day cook off is scheduled for Saturday. This public-event will feature 17 rib grillers and 15 chili entries vying for bragging rights after judges and the public weigh in on their favorites. Everyone is encouraged to dress up in their best St. Patrick’s Day attire and head out to Manning Hausbarn Heritage Park at 5 p.m. March 17 to sample the entries. Attendees will receive two People’s Choice votes with their admission, and additional votes will be available for purchase throughout the event. There will also be a silent auction that includes a Catch Des Moines package, a RAGBRAI signature basket and a large Hausbarn canvas, followed by a live dessert auction. Cost of admission is $10 per person, but tickets are limited and anyone interested in attending is encouraged to buy early. Details on where to find tickets and a full list of judges can be found with this story on our website.
