MidAmerican Energy Company is offering consumers the opportunity to purchase trees at a discounted price. Advance purchase is required for pickup in Fort Dodge on Thursday May 10, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at John F. Kennedy Memorial Park, 1415 Nelson Avenue. The Plant Some Shade program gives MidAmerican customers the option to purchase up to two, 2.5- to 10-foot landscape trees for $30 each. Options include bur oak, quaking aspen, pagoda dogwood and edible plum. In the event additional trees are available on distribution day, they will be released for purchase at 4 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis until they are gone. A brief, 15 to 20 minute, demonstration on proper tree planting will be available to all customers starting at 5 p.m. Participants will also be entered into a drawing for the chance to win a pair of hand pruners and a hand saw, valued at more than $40.
