A Carroll man accused of shooting two Breda men in the early morning hours on April 12 has entered a not guilty plea to all charges filed against him. Forty-eight-year-old Robert John Morris submitted his written pleas to two counts of willfully injury, two counts of reckless use of a firearm, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, class C felonies, and two counts of going armed with intent, class D felonies, in District Court for Carroll County on Thursday, June 28. The charges stem from that April incident in which Morris allegedly shot Breda residents, 35-year old Andrew Wempe and 39-year-old Jacob Helkenn, in the lower extremities during a verbal argument. A jury trial is slated to begin on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the Carroll County Courthouse. If found guilty of the charges, Morris faces up to 60 years in prison and a maximum of $65,000 in fines. A pretrial conference is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 20 to determine if the case will be resolved by plea agreement, be dismissed or proceed to trial.
