It is estimated that more than 70 people hopped in their RVs, cars and trucks and on their motorcycles and bicycles to take part in the second annual Different Spokes ride to benefit Kellan’s Kingdom and the Miracle Field on Aug. 18. Mother of Kellan Tigges, who is the namesake for the all-inclusive playground and ball field, Alie Tigges, says it was great to see more people participating this year than last.
The poker run was just the beginning of the fun-filled day that included live music, great food and live and silent auctions.
Tigges says the 2017 Green Bay Packers autographed football brought the highest dollar amount in the live auction, selling for $825. This event has been a reminder of what a wonderful community we live in, Tigges says. So many people were contacting her to donate items for the auction, and it was amazing to receive thoughtful items that you just can’t find anywhere; like an aerial tour of the Carroll area.
The more than $15,000 raised will be set aside to help with the construction of a full-blown mini-baseball complex that has a poured surface, a scoreboard, dugouts—the works. The field will be used by individuals who have a disability, who are then partnered with a buddy to be able to get out and play baseball. The field will also be used by adults of all abilities as well. To date, there has been about $35,000 to $40,000 raised for the estimated $500,000 cost of constructing the complex. Tigges says there are a lot of grants available to help fund the project and they are working with a grant writer now to get applications in for those dollars. She says that another phenomenal thing about this area is everyone’s commitment to supporting both the playground and the ball field.
The next fundraiser the Tigges are involved in planning will be another cookout once the Kellan’s Kingdom portion at Northeast Park is installed. That is expected to be completed this fall, and she says they are thinking it will be next spring when they will invite everyone out to play on the new equipment and get a chance to see where the Miracle Field will be placed. Tigges adds she is really looking forward to the day she can roll up to Northeast Park and see everyone playing together in a truly unique community space.
