Two Fort Dodge men were taken into custody on multiple charges, including escaping from custody, during a traffic stop in Carroll on Saturday. A Carroll Police Officer initiated a traffic stop at Highway 30 and Burgess Avenue at approximately 8:12 p.m. as a 1998 Toyota Camry failed to come to a stop at the posted stop sign at Burgess and 6th Street. The driver, 24-year-old Tyler Mattingly, provided a false name to the officer, but it was learned he had two active arrest warrants. He was taken into custody and charged with interference with official acts, driving with a suspended license, failure to have insurance and escape from custody. A K-9 unit was called in and the dog indicated the presence of a controlled substance. An initial search located a substance believed to be methamphetamine, which was sent to the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) lab for further testing. Charges are pending the results of those tests. A passenger in the vehicle, 27-year-old Clayton Brown, was also arrested on escape charges.
