For two years running, Ann Wenck has been honored as St. Anthony Regional Hospital’s Hospice Volunteer of the Year. Wenck was presented with the award earlier this month during a “Recipe for Success” themed event. Wenck served 238 hours in 2018, staying with patients who were actively dying during the overnight hours and offering continued respite care and direct patient companionship to a patient Hospice has been caring for since August of 2016. “Ann has been a confidant and friend to many patients and family members. She has been a longtime advocate for our patients’ care and for the mission and purpose of hospice. Her dedication is an inspiration to all of us,” says Carmen Schimmer, St. Anthony Hospice Volunteer and Bereavement Coordinator. In total, the organization celebrated 22 volunteers who served 33 patients and their families by volunteering a total of 834 hours. This represents an increase of more than 150 hours over last year. Volunteers traveled a total of more than 5,800 miles for the benefit of community members and donated 32 hours to two fundraising events: the Carroll Rotary St. Anthony Regional Hospice Softball Tournament and the Tree of Love ornament sale.
