Earlier this month, construction got underway to connect residents just to the southeast of Carroll to fiber optic services of Western Iowa Networks (WIN). Using the same business model as the Mount Carmel and Maple River projects, CEO, Jeff Roiland, says they will be able to bring up to one gigabyte per second internet, crystal clear phone and digital television services to more than 60 households in that region. All three projects began as grassroots efforts and through utilization of WIN’s fiber website. On this site, residents are able to confirm interest in fiber optics in their area or neighborhood. The project encompasses two main areas, the firsts starts on South Grant Road and includes a portion of Noble Avenue, between 210th and 215th Streets, over to Phoenix Avenue. The second part covers Mahogany Avenue down to 220th Street and those residents between Mahogany and Highway 71. This is also opening up the opportunity to consider services to Swan Lake State Park. Conservation Director, Jason Christensen, says they see this as a much-needed segment of the park’s infrastructure. “It will not only benefit our daily office functions, but will benefit park users in a couple of ways,” he says. “One improvement will be in the speed of wireless service we can offer at the Education Center. […] The campground will also see improved wireless internet access.” A link to WIN’s fiber website can be found below.
