The Jefferson Police Department has little to go on, but is investigating an assault report. Officers were notified of the incident at approximately 2:46 p.m. Wednesday. A woman contacted law enforcement and told them that while she was walking in the 800 block of North Cedar Street, she was struck from behind and assaulted while she lay on the ground. Because of the nature of the attack, the victim could not provide a description of her assailant to the authorities.
