The Lake View City Council set plans in motion for the next phase of their ongoing effort to update the city’s aging electrical system and heard from engineers regarding construction at the lagoon during their meeting earlier this week. According to Administrator, Scott Peterson, the city council has been working for the past several years to replace and improve portions of the extensive underground electric system.
The sections most in need of repair were addressed in prior years with focus now shifting towards replacing the older lines and regular maintenance. The work planned for 2020 includes more than four miles of buried lines and is projected to cost approximately $115,000. Officials have scheduled bid-letting for the project for Thursday, Feb. 13 with an expected completion date on Aug. 1, depending on weather conditions during the construction season. The council also heard from Bob Veenstra of Veenstra and Kimm, Inc., the engineering firm hired to oversee construction on the city’s new $6.7 million lagoon. Peterson says Veenstra told the council nearly all the major aspects of construction are close to completion.
Peterson adds the favorable weather conditions have allowed the project’s contractor, Grundman Hicks Construction, to make significant progress over the last several weeks. It will take approximately 40 days for the lagoon to fill once wastewater begins flowing, and officials are optimistic they will begin treating water before the start of summer.
