Prison Term Suspended For Coon Rapids Man Charged With Possession Of A Firearm By A Felon

A prison term of up to seven years for a Coon Rapids man charged with possession of a firearm by a felon was suspended during his sentencing Wednesday in District Court for Carroll County. According to court records, 24-year-old Joshuah Jay Blumberg pled guilty to the class D felony and second-offense possession of methamphetamine, an aggravated misdemeanor, after reaching an agreement with prosecutors. In exchange for his guilty pleas, a five-year and a two-year prison sentence, which would be served consecutively, were suspended, and Blumberg was placed on probation for three years to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services. He was ordered to pay more than $2,400 in fines, court costs and restitution. A second firearm charge and possession of marijuana charge were dismissed as part of the plea deal. Blumberg was arrested on March 14, 2019 by the Coon Rapids Police Department on outstanding warrants. During his arrest, officers located methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, a loaded .22 caliber rifle and a duffel bag containing more than 40 shotgun shells.
