The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) reports Iowa’s COVID-19 case count increased by more than 900 cases over the weekend and now totals 14,955. State health officials also identified 19 additional coronavirus-related deaths since Friday, marking 355 deaths to date. Gov. Kim Reynolds announced during her press conference this (Monday) morning more changes are coming to the state’s coronavirus.iowa.gov data page. According to Reynolds, case counts will soon be updated in real time. She says this will change how daily numbers are reported but believes this will make the information more relevant and transparent to Iowans. These updates are expected to go live by the end of Monday, and Reynolds will highlight their utility during tomorrow’s (Tuesday) press conference. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed the link between a serious complication for children and COVID-19. In rare instances, multisystem inflammatory syndrome occurs in juveniles following a coronavirus infection and causes potentially life-threatening swelling throughout the body. In response, the IDPH has made the syndrome a mandatory reportable disease in Iowa to facilitate increased tracking of the condition and its prevalence. As for COVID-19 case numbers in the region Monday morning, Calhoun County remains at a single confirmed case, and Sac County has grown to five. Carroll County reported its ninth case Monday, with Audubon at 11, Greene at 14 and Guthrie at 39. Crawford county remains the hotspot in the area with 392.
