Calhoun County and Calhoun County Economic Development Corporation (CCEDC) have been awarded over $250,000 in grants from the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) to help fund infrastructure construction to a proposed business park near Rockwell City. According to CCEDC Executive Director, Jill Heisterkamp, the county is still in the planning stage for the estimated $1 million project at the intersection of Highways 4 and 20.
The $261,244 Revitalize Iowa’s Sound Economy (RISE) grant will be used to build about 750 feet of roadway to connect the proposed industrial park with existing roads. Heisterkamp says many of the details on the final project are still undecided but believes it will prove to be an economic benefit for Calhoun County when completed.
She stresses they have not finalized any plans, and they will be releasing more details as they become available. Heisterkamp says the RISE grant carries many requirements with it and can only be used on specific aspects of the project.
The RISE funds are distributed to the county through reimbursements and expenses must be submitted to the DOT as the project moves forward. Heisterkamp says a lot pieces still need to fall into place before they can get started but is optimistic construction on the new road will finish in July of 2021.
