Central School Preservation Considers Building Dog Park In Lake City

The group tasked with maintaining the museum housed in Lake City’s historic school building, Central School Preservation, is exploring the possibility of bringing a dog park to the community. President, Darcy Maulsby, says they already own an unused plot of land near the building that would be a great fit for this idea.

According to Maulsby, they are still very early in the planning process. Their first step was to check with the city council to see if the park could be covered under their liability insurance. Administrator, Eric Wood, says the council supports the idea, but they still need to hear back from their insurance provider.

If the liability coverage is approved, Maulsby says Central School Preservation is ready to begin designs and fundraising for the project.

Maulsby adds most of the work is just fencing in the area, so construction can generally be completed relatively quickly, regardless of the design they may choose. She is optimistic the park could be ready for dogs and their owners by as soon as next summer.
