Local Food Banks And Pantries Encourage To Apply For New DNR Grant To Expand Food Storage Capacity

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced late last week they are offering a new grant opportunity to help food banks and similar non-profit organizations expand their storage capacity. The application period for the Food Waste Grant is open now with submissions reviewed and selected until available funds are depleted. Individual awards of up to $10,000 will be presented to facilitate the storage and management of donated food items or to implemented new or additional cold storage units for perishable materials. In addition to providing better services to food-insecure Iowans, the grant will allow food banks, pantries and other non-profits reduce food waste, which negatively impacts environmental, economic and social sustainability throughout Iowa.
