City Of Carroll Plans Ashphalt Projects For July

The annual hot mix asphalt (HMA) resurfacing project in Carroll will have a later starting date this year, estimated to begin on July 20 with a calendar of 60 working days. Director of Public Works, Randy Krauel, says road construction will be focused in two main locations, on West Street from 7th to 18th Streets and on Grant Road from the Middle Raccoon River Bridge to the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. The project was put out to bid, but Krauel says the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) received only one.

And though there was only one bid, it was very close to the engineer’s estimate.

The remainder of the costs are comprised of design and construction administration fees. Funding for the project has been pre-identified and there is a total of $1.575 million allocated. Krauel says there will not be detours designated while the work is being done. He calls this a “moving target” that will see portions impassable during paving, but traffic generally resumes that same day.
