A Sioux City man facing charges in Carroll County District Court for fleeing from law enforcement nearly a year ago was sentenced earlier this week. According to court records, 27-year-old Alex Zamorra Delashmutt was originally charged with eluding, a class D felony, possession of cocaine, a serious misdemeanor, and driving while barred, an aggravated misdemeanor. Delashmutt reached an agreement with prosecutors near the beginning of June and pled guilty to a reduced eluding charge and first-offense possession of a controlled substance. He was sentenced to three years in prison and ordered to pay over $2,300 in fines, surcharges and court costs. In exchange for his guilty pleas, the three-year prison sentence and $840 in fines were suspended and was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for three years. The charges stemmed from an incident near Maple River on July 20, 2019.
