Iowa Is One Of The Top 10 Best Places For Working Dads

Father’s Day is this Sunday and like other holidays and special occasions this year, it will be celebrated much differently than in the past. In recognition of dads across the nation and their hard work and dedication to being a parent and provider, personal finance website, WalletHub released the results of a study rating the best states for working dads. Twenty-three key metrics were used in ranking all 50 states and the District of Columbia. These include childcare costs, percentage of children to age 17 who live in poverty with a father present in the household, median family income adjusted for the cost of living, unemployment rates, life expectancy, length of work day and more. Iowa landed in the top 10 best states, coming in at number eight. Iowa topped the charts recording the lowest unemployment rate for dads with kids younger than 18 and sixth in the male uninsured rate category. Iowa ranked 13th in child care costs and 15th in male life expectancy. Massachusetts was tops in the nation and two other Midwestern states landed in the top 10, Minnesota came in second and North Dakota ninth. According to WalletHub, New Mexico is the least friendly state to working dads, coming in dead last in the economic and social well-being ranking, 47th in childcare and 43rd in health.
