Memorial Day events Monday, May 29, 2023, in Carroll will include the annual parade, American Legion ceremonies, and the second Carroll Historic Preservation Commission’s Cemetery Character Walk.
Parade entries should gather at the South Side Park at 10 a.m. The parade will leave the park at 10:30 a.m. and progress to the cemetery.
At the Memorial Circle there, the American Legion ceremonies will include a welcome by emcee Tony Konkler; a prayer by Chaplain Bob Wagner of the Lidderdale Lutheran Church; a guest speech by Greg Siemann, local lawyer and veteran; selections by high school bands, reading of the names of veterans who have died within the past year, a 21-gun salute, and the playing of Taps.
Following the American Legion activities, Tim Fitzpatrick will introduce the Historic Preservation Commission’s second Cemetery Character Walk. Students and adults will portray interesting and influential Carroll citizens from the 1800s to the 21st century. From 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. they will be located at the characters’ gravesites for spectators to hear their life stories.
Ten new characters will join six returning individuals from last year’s Character Walk.
