The Fort Dodge Area Symphony will present the next concert in their 2022-2023 season on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at 3pm in the Fort Dodge Middle School Auditorium. Titled “Country Dances”, this concert will explore music with motion in works inspired by dance and travel. Antonin Dvorak’s Festival March, written to celebrate a wedding anniversary, and Jordan Jinosko’s Three Sketches of Unblemished Earth, detailing a journey along the Appalachian Trail, are paired with the sounds of sailors dancing on the decks of the H.M.S Pinafore, George Butterworth’s music inspired by the poetry of A.E. Housman and a set of dances written by Edward German for a stage production of Henry VIII, and ending with three of Dvorak’s most popular Slavonic Dances.
About this concert, Music Director and Conductor Joshua Barlage says, ‘we feel especially fortunate to have composer Jordan Jinosko join us for our next concert. It is vital for the health of our artform that orchestras regularly perform the music of living, breathing composers. Having the ability to speak directly to the composer, ask questions and, ultimately, gain a better insight into their piece is truly an amazing experience. These are things we can never do when performing the music of Bach, Beethoven or Brahms.‘
