The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education approved a motion last night (Monday) to join the Rabiner Consortium, which helps guarantee a spot for students with severe behavioral concerns. Superintendent, Rob Cordes, says when the need arises, finding a place for these types of students can be difficult.
The Rabiner Treatment Center near Fort Dodge was created in 1961 by the Iowa State Police Association as a home for troubled boys. It is now managed by the Manson-Northwest Webster School District as a place for students districts have trouble managing on their own. It costs the Carroll district $20,000 to be a part of the consortium.
Several board members were concerned with what would happen to the fees associated with the Rabiner Consortium if a student was not required to attend the academy. Cordes told them the district would not be out the money if that occurred.
CCSD will be responsible for transport both to and from the facility, but the rest is covered. Ten other school districts have already joined the Rabiner Consortium and seven more are considering signing the membership agreement.
