The Coon Rapids Police Department has filed charges against an Ames man after he broke into a Coon Rapids home in which he used to live. At approximately 3 p.m. on Sept. 26, Bob Richards reported damage to a window and multiple exterior doors at his home in the 900 block of Stagecoach Road. While searching the scene, an officer located a screwdriver and a pry bar as well as additional evidence indicating a break in. Authorities later spoke to the victim’s grandson, 21-year-old Collin Daniel Richards, who admitted to breaking into the house to retrieve personal possessions as he was no longer welcome at the residence. Damage from the incident is estimated at approximately $500. Fourth degree criminal mischief and trespass causing more than $200 damage charges, both serious misdemeanors have been filed against Collin Richards. He is scheduled to appear at the Carroll County Courthouse on Thursday, Oct. 26.
