Hansen Becomes Full-Time Chief Of Police In Manning

Manning’s part-time Police Chief, Sam Hansen, has officially become the full-time department head as of Wednesday, March 8. Hansen, who became a Sheriff’s Deputy at the age of 20, spent several years with the Audubon County Sheriff’s Office before joining the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office in 2005. He took on the role of part-time Chief in Manning in 2015.

Hansen said he needed to make a decision on the direction his career would take earlier this month; but it was not easy for him to choose between staying with the Sheriff’s Office or moving into the full-time position at Manning. Hansen tendered his resignation with the county last Monday.

If Manning continues to see the progressive growth they have experienced in recent years, Hansen said he and the Manning city leaders will be looking to expand law enforcement.

Hansen, who was born in Audubon, went to school in Manning and chose the community of nearly 1,500 as the place he wanted to raise his family. He and his wife, Amy, have two children, Miranda who is attending the University of Northern Iowa to become a teacher and Marshall who is a junior at IKM-Manning High School. Hansen has been actively involved in the Manning community for years, having done youth coaching and currently serving on the IKM-Manning Community Schools’ Board of Education.
