For the Chamber of Commerce Good Neighbor Award, the organization enlisted the help of a colleague and friend of the award winner to find a way to get him to attend the annual banquet last Monday night. Charlie Nixon, owner of the Coon Rapids Enterprise, said it was no easy feat.
Nixon went on to say that the real recipient of the award moved to Coon Rapids from Manning in the mid-1980s. He has been secretary of the Carroll County Pork Producers, active in his church, a 4-H leader for many years and has served on the Guthrie County Extension committee. He received the Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award in 2011, has been on the Carroll County Fair board for more than a quarter century and served as President for each year but one. It is this man’s year-round work that brings pride to the entire county during one full week in the summer.
Mohr was visibly moved by the award presentation, and laughed when he accepted, saying that they really worked his tail off trying to get Chris to the banquet. This year is his 27th as President, and he says the fair is really his passion…his hobby.
He closed by saying we all know Iowa and Carroll County are all about agriculture, and what better way to promote it than at the county fairs. The newest award from Monday night, the Carroll Young Professional of the Year, will be featured in an upcoming broadcast.
