Just a couple of weeks ago, Jon Crook, CEO of Carroll Brewing Company, announced they were considering three buildings in Carroll as the possible location of their new brew pub and distribution center. This came after partners realized their original site selection choice at Carroll Auto Salvage on east Highway 30 could potentially cost more than exploring existing building options. Crook says they have made a selection and will be renovating the building on the corner of 5th and Clark Streets. The brick building on that corner and adjoining lots on 5th Street were purchased last fall by Dr. Steve Kraus, President of DMBA Properties and Consulting, Inc. of Carroll. Kraus has begun construction in the empty lot space of the nearly 17,000 square-foot home of Biokinemetrics, Inc. The plans for Carroll Brewing Company originally included a need for approximately 10,000 square feet of production space and another 4,000 dedicated to retail. Crook says they will be taking possession of the building on Aug. 1 and renovations will begin immediately. The principals of Carroll Brewing Company are also vested in a sister business, Boone Valley Brewing Company, which has about 300 draft accounts and product in 53 counties and nearly 80 stores. Crook says the plan for Carroll Brewing Company is to produce three year-round core beers that will be mass distributed throughout western and central Iowa. They will also produce another 30 to 40 beers in different time frames throughout the course of the year.
