Audubon Rec Center Hoping To Open By End Of September

The Carroll Public Library was not the only area project that was discussed during last week’s Enhance Iowa board of directors meeting in Danville. Joey Herbers, manager of the Audubon Recreation Center, was on hand to ask for an extension to a contract agreement from a grant the board had previously awarded. Herbers says that even though he was hired just three months ago, he has seen the positive impact the grant has had on the community.

Herbers says the biggest part of the renovation is the addition of a bowling alley. The Audubon Bowling Alley burned down about 20 years ago.

The extension was being sought because Brunswick, who is installing the bowling alley, wants to be the last company in the building. They are expected to come in this week and say it will be done in about three weeks. This has set the new timeline for reopening the rec center at the end of September. The board did agree to the extension, but also asked Herbers to put the end date further out to ensure that they would not have to return to ask for another extension. The new closing date for the grant will be Jan. 1, 2019.
