Carroll’s Newest Police Officer Is Excited To Meet More Carroll Residents And A New Baby Next Year

The Carroll Police Department has welcomed another new member, Officer John York, who just graduated from the Law Enforcement Academy in Johnston a week and a half ago. York, who hails from eastern Iowa, says he had only been to Carroll one other time before coming to interview for the position earlier this year, but he was impressed with the community and thrilled when he learned of an opening.

His and Amanda’s daughters are eight and two, and they are expecting a baby boy in January of 2019. He says his choice to enter law enforcement has resulted from a life-long interest in helping others.

York says that one of the hardest parts of the 15 and a half weeks at the academy was being separated from his family, but the training he received was excellent. Obviously, he adds, there is not enough time to learn everything, and so he has been spending the time since he got back riding with other officers and beginning his hands-on education. But that time spent at the academy has resulted in some long-term relationships.

York says one of the hardest things coming into the position is learning the geography, but he feels like he is picking that up pretty quickly. He is looking forward most to meeting more of the Carroll residents.

Chief, Brad Burke, says that even though York is the newest member of the force, his seniority level will be rising quickly as they will be hiring two more officers this fall, with testing in October.
