A Jefferson man accused of identity theft and forgery was arrested by the Jefferson Police Department Monday. An investigation was initiated by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office on June 12 after a family member of 29-year-old Benjamin Anthony Allen told authorities they believed he had stolen a checkbook from their residence near Rippey. The investigation uncovered 15 checks totaling more than $10,000 were used by Allen between March 19 and April 30 and that Allen had allegedly admitted to the victim he had taken the checks. Allen was booked into the Greene County jail and is being held on charges of identity theft of over $10,000 and first-degree theft, both class C felonies, and forgery, a class D felony.
